Bulldog Dash 5K Germantown May 16, 2009

Marvin, I think this is the fourth time that I ran the Bulldog. Usually the weather is beautiful for this race; however this year it was damp and overcast with a cold front moving through. The temperature didn't bother me. I run better in the cooler air. Even with the weather overcast there was a record turnout of 500+ people. I wasn't feeling my best during this race, but was able to finish 6th overall with a time of 19:17 1st in age 34-39.

This is still one of my favorite races. It always draws a big crowd and this year was no exception. At the beginning of the race Marvin noticed the line of runners went around a corner and down another road. As usual the start was pretty congested. Why do little kids think they have to start out front? It is hard to get around them. Throughout the whole race I didn’t feel too bad, although the two mile mark seemed awfully far. Toward the end a guy went by me pretty fast. I tried to speed up but didn’t have it in me. My final time was 20.54, a little faster than last year. I came in second for age 40-44 and 18th out of 131 for men. Two weeks ago I was a little over 21 minutes, so this time I knew I could get under 21. Overall I think I did pretty good considering the amount of training I have been doing. Like usual the after race layout was great. Free hotdogs and hamburgers, plus water, Ski soda, energy drinks, and other kinds of food always make this a great race. I plan on making it back.
