Hoyleton Hofbraufest 5K 07-11-09
(David) Finally, a race that my time was better this year than last year. This year my time was 20.11, last year 20.27. What’s odd is that my first mile time for last year was 5.35, this year was 6.03, interesting. Do I wear myself out in the first mile or should I have run harder in this year’s first mile? This was also the second race in a row that was run in the rain and also the second race in a row that my left shoelace became untied during the run. Maybe there is a connection. I ran about a mile of the race with it untied. I figured I would not stop and tie it until the shoe completely flew off. This is a pretty fast out and back course that brings in a lot of fast runners. The winning time was under 16 minutes and that was in rainy and windy conditions. I wonder how good the times would be in perfect conditions. Last year it was miserably hot. I’m not sure of my overall place, but I did get 3rd in age 40-44. The last mile felt like it hurt the worst and I beat myself down mentally, again. I missed the door prizes because I sat in my truck out of the rain. I don’t know if I won anything or not. The results of this race always seem to take awhile, this day was no exception. After the awards another runner I know said all the results might be messed up because they screwed up his age group. No, not again! I think it may have been just his age group, I hope. This is the third year for this run and they still have a lot of competitors. I hope I get the chance to run this one for years to come so I can say I have been in every one to that point.
