Pinckneyville Fall Classic 8K Oct. 27 2007

(Marvin) This is not a race that we run in, but a race that we host in our home town. The Fall Classic has been around for many years and was dying and absent in 2005. Dave and I talked about doing the race ourselves. The reason for the decaying race was that the previous race director moved out of town. He still was hosting it but having a hard time not living in town anymore. We talked to him about what needed to be done. The next thing you know the 5 mile race had been resurrected in 2006. We have had many complements and thanks for bringing and keeping the race going. This is still a learning phase for us, and we are making the race the best we can. This year we attracted more people than last, and hope it continues. We had great door prizes this year. The only problem was that we received them late and were not able to advertise it. If you are interested in running the race it is always the last Saturday of Oct. more information can be obtain at http://www.pyramidrunningclub.com/

(David) I really want to run this race one year. However, that is probably impossible because there is so much to do before and during the race. Marvin pretty much runs the whole thing and I help him a little bit. I have been doing the attendance prizes. I think this year we had some pretty good stuff to give away. My sister Paula somehow got in contact with ASICS and they gave us certificates for two pairs of running shoes and two 3 pack of socks. They also donated visors and key chains. Also, local merchants were very generous. The local eye doctor gave a certificate for sunglasses, a bank gave a $50.00 savings bond, sporting goods store gave $25.00 gift card, local restaurants gave coupons, and the list went on. I also tried to take pictures of the runners during the race. I say “tried” because they didn’t turn out too good. I think the race turned out very well. We had more participants this year than last. Also it is still a learning experience so it will get better and better each year. I know on my end it was quite a bit of work, and I don’t have too much responsibility. I don’t think I would want to do all that Marvin does. This is a nice race. Also remember that there is a 5k fun walk that draws in quite a few people and they are eligible for attendance prizes and also receive t-shirts.
